Yet again, we would like to wish our dearest chinese counterparts a happy and fruitful chinese new year. To those who were not celebrating this joyous occasion, hope you guys enjoyed the long weekend away from work and school. Now, back to business. After the CNY break, JAWS yet again entered familiar waters by doing what they do best, playing fantastic football against a team ironically named Fantasista. The score may look flattering but kudos to Fantasista for their never-say-die and positive attitude. They put up a better performance as compared to the previous fixture between these two teams. Unfortunately for them, JAWS were in biting mood in front of goal and it was a good match played out in desert-like conditions.Last game's draw against Northwest Spartans proved to be a motivation and catalyst for all players to continue what has been synonymous to JAWS which is : Winning and Winning with Style. As a player, I was impressed by the positive and unwavering desire to perform by all players, young and OLD. It helped that faithful and fabulous supporters like Reen(also the integral part of JAWS handling almost all admin and photo taking activities) and Nyzsa (also an integral part in keeping the hot headed players cool) were there to provide their sincere support. Of course, I remember one part of the Dudley Brothers, Ismadi or in WWE they call him IsmaD'von(sounds like a pornstar name). A team photo was taken after the game as JAWS donned their white and later black jersey. The pride on each and one's faces were evident as JAWS look forward to more games in the future.
1st half first XI : Top(L to R) Rusdi Ramos, Bazzleep, Ming, Hissham Hernandez, Diki, Jabz. Bottom(L to R) Kiran, Daryl, Ayyub, Syahrul, AyatA hot and humid afternoon was the setting for a 1pm kickoff. The dry pitch made it feel as if the game was being played at a middle eastern country but JAWS certainly didnt look like a fish out of water. Amidst the heatwaves, JAWS kicked off and turned up their own heat by dominating the game right from the start. It was a slow start as both teams took time to adjust themselves to the sweltering heat. A midfield trio of Syahrul,Hissham and Diki bossed the midfield backed by a sound backline led by Kiran. JAWS dominated the early possession and that led to Diki sliding a long through ball to Ayyub. Alas, after having beaten a defender with ease, his goalbound shot was blocked and cleared by the opposing team. It was an ominous sign for Fantasista and a positive one for JAWS as the goals are bound to come afterwards. A smooth transitional play from defence to attack in the 5th minute led to Ming receiving the ball and duly left his marker for dead and rounded the keeper to slot the ball into an empty net. JAWS 1 FANTASISTA 0! GAME ON!The goal however did not satiate JAW's hunger for more goals as our top scorer, Ayat went on his trademark run which saw him get past 3 defenders with ridiculous ease. 1 on 1 with the keeper, as expected of him, he went past the keeper as the keeper desperately tried to pull him down. With an empty goalpost in front of him, everybody was already getting ready to celebrate as Ayat coolly slotted the ball towards the net. Surely he would score?! However, a defender cleared the ball off the line just in the nick of time and conceded a corner. That did not deter Ayat from making a nuisance of himself throughout the game. A lapse of concentration from JAWS allowed Fantasista to convert a quick free kick to their striker and with the marking found wanting, he scored as Jabar was rooted to the spot. JAWS 1 FANTASISTA 1. The goal surely shook up the players as JAWS searched for the inevitable goal to take the lead again. The attacking trio of Ayat, Ayyub and Ming was making clever and deceiving runs which allowed Diki to notch up his first assist to Ayyub with a long punt towards goal. Ayyub proceeded to place the ball beyond the reach of the flailing keeper. JAWS 2 FANTASISTA 1. The goal did not mean JAWS rested on their laurels as a long pass from Kiran was headed smartly by Ayyub for the incoming Hashim. Hashim bore down on goal and with a swing of his left foot, the ball nestled against the back of the net. JAWS 3 FANTASISTA 1. Ming went on to waste two golden chances as he came on one one with the keeper. WAN BEAR FOR HISSHAM. Wan entered the fray and distributed the ball sweetly for the strikers up front. The game continued as Fantasista's backline continued to be bombarded by JAWS's relentless attack. It must be a relief as the referee blowed for half time. HT score : JAWS 3 FANTASISTA 1
2nd half First XI : Is, Chee Hui, Hilmi, Shaik, Jie Hao, Indra, Diki, Faiz, Wan, Ayyub, AyatFantasista kicked off the 2nd half in search for goals but instead smooth play from the midfield saw Ayyub finding himself in a favourable position to notch his second goal of the game. He did not disappoint as he dispatched the ball into the back of the net to widen JAW's lead by 3 goals. JAWS 4 FANTASISTA 1. The full backs, Jie Hao and Indra was making full use of their speed and aggression by making overlapping runs after a much needed half time team talk by the gaffer. It was encouraging as their raids down the flanks caused havoc for the opposing fullbacks. DIN FOR DIKI. Din added much steel alongside Faiz as the midfield took control in the middle of the park. With his experience, Din slipped a beautiful ball for the speedy Ayat to go through on goal. Ayat did not make any mistake and atoned for his earlier miss by smashing the ball into the roof of the net,the keeper soundly beaten. JAWS 5 FANTASISTA 1. Fantasista on occasions threatened to pull a goal back and on one occassion, Is had to run off his line to intercept a through ball for a striker. He calmly collected the ball of the striker's feet and it was a vindication of JAW's belief in themselves and the victory that they will achieve. A short corner resulted in Faiz receiving the ball just outside the box. Faiz squared the ball nicely into the penalty spot area and out of nowhere like John Doe, Din came flying in with a sweet volley. His agility and instinct would certainly put kids half his age to shame and as the saying goes, "Its not about how old you are, its about how good you are.". JAWS 6 FANTASISTA 1. Shaik was a constant thorn in on the right flank cutting through the defence and making a nuisance of himself with the defenders. On three separate occassions he found himself in a goal scoring opportunity and all three times it wasnt meant to be. Everyone was in disbelief as onwatchers wanted Shaik to score his maiden goal in the league. Tough luck but there is always a next time. HISSHAM FOR WAN BEAR. JAWS continued their fine form of football, knocking the ball around the pitch covering each blade of grass. MING FOR AYYUB. With 4 minutes to go, Ayat finished a commendable play by the backline and midfield and scoring his 2nd goal of the game and 13th of the season. Looks like Ayat is making it a personal mission to receive the Golden Boots and he is certainly not letting up on that. JAWS 7 FANTASISTA 1. As the merciless sun shone onto the pitch, so did the players as they shone right till the final whistle. Final Score : JAWS 7 FANTASISTA 1.It was an awesome game and after the match, a team talk was held as usual. Everyone agreed it was a good match played out and we need to continue to play as confident as today. Although the sun burned through our skins and increased the melanin count making some of us including me look like bangladeshi workers, it was small matter as JAWS triumphed yet again. Personally, I enjoyed my game today as some of us got to know each other better off the field and that translated to better communication on it. We were good on all accounts but(there's always a but as said by Din), I felt we were overconfident and there were few lapses as we were leading by a wide margin. Nonetheless, I wish all of you the best and have a good week ahead. See you all in the upcoming weeks and don't forget to sleep like normal humans. Take care, don't let care take you!ESPZEN Man-Of-The-Match : DICKY SOFIANYours Always,Dicky Sofian Razak. |

Diki did a fantastic match report which really highlighted the point that the hot weather didnt deter Jaws to play our football effectively. Players and others please feel free to contribute other Jaws related articles or even your inner thoughts! No RA stuffs, only rated PG materials please! haha
