JAWS SC 3 - 2 ROYALS FC
Scorers : Ayat, Jampok, AyyubAssists : Ayyub, Shaq
Fresh from our previous week's win, JAWS came out in full force at Henderson Secondary School to face off against Royals FC. The hot weather has not let up even if it was a 3pm kickoff with our players. An early scare presented itself when the groundsman confidently declared there wasnt' a game at 3pm and it led to some players waiting outside the gate for quite some time. Kiran R.S, the captain by chance had gotten himself a complimentary mp3 speaker and it helped in keeping the player's morale up in the sweltering heat. Zul was in one of his jovial moods, headbanging his way throught Rage against The Machine and explaining to some of the players why they broke up. That aside, it was good to see everybody truly comfortable and enjoying themselves before the game without having any jitters or fear on the upcoming games. It was also heartening to see the SAGs(Sisters and Girlfriends) to come down and help out with the photo taking and support that some of us needed.
1st half XI : Mamat, Chee Hui, Kiran(c), Bazli, Rusdi, Syahrul, Hissham, Zul, Ayat, Hashim, AyyubFirst half kicked off and it was certainly an enjoyable game right from the start. Royals FC started with much of the early possession and pressure as JAWS SC tried to regain some control of the game. Royals signalled their intentions early as their striker nearly scored with a good effort but the ball went marginally wide as those at the sidelines breathed a sigh of relief. It was a scrappy game with neither teams getting clear cut chances or dominating possession. Zul was designed as an anchorman, the team's watter carrier and he did a recommendable job not only screening the back four but also distributing the passes. Hashim was doing his best on the right flank making direct effective runs which troubled the left back for most of the 1st half. At the 39th minute mark, Royals conceded a freekick near the center of the pitch and Ayyub stepped up to take it. He floated a beautiful ball towards goal and as Royals's back four pushed up for an offside trap, Ayat sprung and blasted the ball into the roof of the net. It was a goal that could have gone either way but it did not matter to Ayat who scored his 14th goal and JAWS who notched up our 32nd goal of the season. Faiz and Kiran nearly cost JAWS a goal as they attempted to bring the ball out of defence but was cut out and it was fortunate that Royals strikers were off the mark. As play resumed, the scrappy affair of the game took precedence and the referee blew for half time and a much needed break.
2nd half XI : Mamat, Chee Hui, Kiran, Faiz, Indra, Daryl, Hilmi, Ayyub, Shaq, Ming, Jampok2nd half got under way as JAWS tried to widen their lead but instead a needless freekick conceded outside the penalty box was floated towards the goal. Mamat did well to stop the ball but it slipped and as the defence were caught napping and ball watching, Royals FC striker managed to sneak in and scored the equaliser. It was a wake up call for JAWS and it certainly helped in making JAWS's play more urgent. However, a physical game was slowly dominating the pitch and a few hard challenges flew in mostly to Ming who was making a nuisance to himself and Chee Hui who was being his usual self by winding up the opponent. A late challenge resulted in Chee Hui getting a yellow card and he certainly has to watch himself as he could go into JAWs' history books as the first player to be red carded in a League game. However, he added that steel at the back to ensure Royals FC strikers did not get space to run or make attempts to run. As play continued, Shaq Robben did more of an ala Kaka as he threaded a delicious through ball to Jampok to score his first goal for the league in the 65th minute. JAWS regained the lead and it took out some fight in Royals. As Royals poured in to search for the equaliser, Faiz Matnawi was involved in a 3 man handicap match as he got brought down, twice. It was certainly a physical game but it was a good one as both teams were out to test each other mentally and physically. 6 minutes later, Royals FC conceded a free kick outside their penalty box and up came Ayyub. With a swing of his right leg, the ball was in the top corner and it was a sucker punch for Royals who were doing very well in their search for an equaliser. 2 goals up and JAWS were comfortable as it seemed that Royals took their foot off the gas and tried to slow down the game. It worked to their advantage as JAWS conceded another free kick near the edge of the box and yet again, through a set piece we conceded a goal. As Ayat kicked off from the center field, the referee blew the final whistle and wth that JAWS went top with a better goal scoring record but having played a game more. FTW JAWS!
Credits have to go to everyone for putting up a strong fight and effort for the game. It was good to see everybody playing their best and did not complain as tactical switches were made. Special mentions go out to Ayat, Ming and Hashim for planning for the game and Din for making sure these plans were carried out. Din also took note of who were performing and who wasnt. He promptly took them out when it was needed and even some players looked unhappy when being subbed out, it only meant one thing, everybody wants to play badly. It was also very heartening to see out team taking put downs by the opposition in a positive manner and making it a motivation. With that i conclude with a line : Zul, my world is cold without you.
ESPZEN MAN OF THE MATCH : MUHD HILMI ZULKIFLIYours Sincerely, Dicky Sofian Razak |
